Beaver Scouts were started in 1982 and became a recognised section of the Scout movement in April 1986 for children aged between 6 and 8 years old. They meet for an hour each week during school term. It is a different environment to school where they can spend time with their friends playing games and learning new and fun things.

We are now maintaining 24 Beavers in our colony with a good list of children waiting to get in.

There are a number of badges of different activities that the children work towards during the year. To gain these badges there are a number of simple tasks to be completed, they go on visits and spend some time exploring the local surroundings. We have people with particular knowledge of the subjects come in to talk to the Beavers.

Message from Our Beaver Leader.

Dear Parents

I am just letting you know that in the near future I will be stepping back a little from Beavers as the group is planning to develop the Explorer section later next year and I will be taking over. I am asking if any of you would be interested in taking over the role as Beaver Leader and I would then become an assistant Beaver leader.

Being a Beaver leader isn’t as hard as it looks and is made easier now by an online programme and management system where there are lots of activities already available and also 7985 Leaders registered to ask for help and ideas.

I have really enjoyed my time as Beaver leader over these past 18 months and don’t really want to give it up completely hence saying I would stay as an Asst but planning for both Beavers and Explorers would just be too much.

Regards

Alan Gosling, Beaver Leader
